On Thursday December 19, 2019 the Homewood Center will be holding its 16th annual Recycled Treasure Sale.  Started by Suzi Young, the Recycled Treasure Sale was initiated as a way for students to get high quality new and gently used items as gifts for family members and friends.  It started in 2004 held in one room with only a few items with seven students participating. Now the event is bursting at the seams with fantastic toys, electronics, games, sporting equipment, household items and much, much more with 130 students taking part.  Donations are coming in everyday from students, parents, community organizations and others. Students are awarded ‘Homewood bucks’ for grades earned with the highest attending students shopping first.

The event is so large now that the sale takes place in the cafeteria with hundreds of person hours involved in getting this going.  Ms. Young is the impetus for the event. Last year Howard County Police volunteered to help assist shoppers. This year parents are coming at noon to shop as well.  Staff also volunteer to gift wrap items with traditional and ‘green’ gift wrap. Everybody goes home happy!
