Tiffany Smith, Staff Writer

Today I sat down with Ms.Tyana Dingle, a former student and now staff member at Homewood. I interviewed Ms. Dingle about her experiences both as a student and as a staff member at the Homewood Center.

Q:  During what grades did you attend Homewood ?

A:  I was a student during 11th and 12th grade

Q:  Which program were you in at Homewood?

A:  The Gateway program.

Q: If you don’t mind sharing, why did you come to Homewood?

A:  I needed to be in a smaller school environment due to ongoing issues in my comprehensive school.

Q:  What was your experience like at Homewood as a student?

A:  I had a great experience, some days were a little harder than others. I definitely got the help and attention that I needed though. I got love and a lot of life-long mentorships at Homewood.

Q:  What was your worst experience at Homewood as a student?

A:  My worst experience at Homewood was being handcuffed in the Cafeteria.

Q:  Why did you choose to come back to work at Homewood?

A:  I feel like it was my calling. I also feel like students understand people who have experienced a similar situation.

Q:  If you could change anything about Homewood what would it be?

A:  I would change the separation in programs. I feel like there should still be two programs but they should be less isolated.

Q:  What was your best experience at Homewood as a student?

A:  My best experience was that I created bonds in my homeroom with Mrs.McMurtray.  I also formed relationships with  Dr.McKnight-Dean and Mr. Barrett who helped me get through algebra.

Q:  What was your worst experience as a staff member at Homewood?

A:  Tragically, my first year here 2 students passed away.

Q:  What was your best experience as a staff member at Homewood?

A:  There are so many, but the most important experience was watching students graduate.
